1896

Contract let for building the Shaver Block.
– The Truth-Index, Salisbury, N. C.; April 30, 1896.

On north Main street three handsome stores going up.
– “We Are Growing,” The Evening World, Salisbury, N. C.; June 5, 1896.

 


 

1897

By December 1897, the Shaver Block was finished, and Burt Shoe Co. occupied the 113 North Main store. An advertisement in The Carolina Watchman indicates that Burt’s was across the street from the post office, which was on the west side of North Main Street.

April 2, 1903: Edwin Shaver sells the Shaver Block to D. L. Arey for $20,000.
“Beginning at a point on main Street at the Centre of the wall of the South West store room or House of three new brick stores houses on said street known as the Shaver Block and the old brick store house of said Edwin Shaver … ”
